Benigno Simeon Cojuangco Aquino III
also called Noynoy, (born February 8, 1960, Manila, Philippines—died
June 24, 2021, Manila), Filipino politician who served as president of
the Philippines (2010–16) and was the scion of a famed political family.
Noynoy is a Filipino politician who served as the 15th president of the
Philippines from 2010 until 2016. Aquino is a fourth-generation
politician and was the chairman of the Liberal Party from 2010 to 2016.
On September 9, 2009, shortly after the death of his mother, Aquino
officially announced that he would be a candidate in the 2010
presidential election. He was elected and on June 30, 2010, was sworn
into office as the fifteenth President of the Philippines at the Quirino
Grandstand in Rizal Park, Manila, succeeding Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. He
ended his term on June 30, 2016, succeeded by Rodrigo Duterte. In 2013,
Time named him one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World.
The wake for former president Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III will be open
for public viewing for a day at the Church of the Gesu inside the Ateneo
de Manila University in Quezon City. The public viewing will be from 10
a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, June 25. "In adherence to the regulations of
the IATF for COVID-19, the Aquino family enjoins everyone who intends to
personally pay their last respects to the former President, to follow
the health protocols and social distancing measures that will be
implemented by the Ateneo de Manila University in coordination with the
authorities," according to the official bulletin. Meanwhile, the Ateneo
de Manila University community will be live-streaming the public viewing
through the Radyo Katipunan 87.9 FM Facebook page. Aquino died on
Thursday morning. He was 61 years old.
